The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad began its non-profit history as a project of the Phillips Historical Society about 1970. In the 1980s we became independent. Then once again, in the early 1990s, we became a division of the Phillips Historical Society. Effective in August 2003, we are, once again, independent of our good friends at the Phillips Historical Society.

The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt foundation dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the original railroad.
