Spencer Property

Purchased

The initial interest in this property was that it included our only access road and approximately 100 yards of our mainline (we have owned the rest of the 0.5 mile P&R right of way for many years). But the property also abuts both sides of our track for essentially its full length. In the last couple of years Mr. Herb Spencer has expressed interest in selling out his entire property. Consequently, we purchased 99 acres, a brick house, and a house trailer for $130,000 on November 29, 2001. In addition, we paid $10,000 for a sawmill and a sizable assortment of building materials. The brick house is a structure of considerable significance. It is known as Ambleside and was built by Major Seward Dill shortly after the Civil War. Major Dill was one of the key early promoters and financers of the Sandy River Railroad.
