SR&RL

HARDWARE & TRUCKS

PROJECT

**********

This project actually serves several others. As many people are aware, most of the surviving cars of the SR&RL were saved as stationary structures devoid of their trucks and sometimes other hardware because the scrapper wanted the metal and the car buyers didn't have money to waste on wheels that weren't going to roll. Remember, it was the Great Depression!

We are working with an outside shop to produce various car hardware and freight trucks. The first project, 22 stirrup steps (enough for all cars) was completed in early January, 2001. Current projects are several each of four different straps and blocks for hanging couplers and 10 journal boxes. In Fall 2001, truck assembly will begin in earnest. Future trucks will be of the swing motion type, correct for SR&RL boxcars.
