CARPENTER SHOP

PROJECT

**********

This project could have been considered as part of the Roundhouse Addition Project, but then anything we add to the roundhouse would have had the same argument.

Soon after we got a roof on the new portion of the roundhouse, we decided we really needed a decent carpenter shop. So, we had a slab poured in the rear 15 feet of stalls 1 and 2. Access is from the end where the camera is (stall 3). Stall 3 is also the one equipped with a rear door, which will be handy for moving wood and tools in.

Here we look at the largely finished shop from the stall #1 end. The major tools visible are a radial arm saw, table saw, and drill press. The windows into stalls 1 and 2 are temporarily boarded up to contain the heat. Yes, we have a furnace in the corner behind the camera. The lighting and the tools will be powered by our gas powered generator installed behind the roundhouse.

If it seems like this happened awful fast, it did. It became a priority project in the fall of 2002 so that work could continue through the winter.

A clearer shot from the other end taken in July, 2003. The placement of some of the tools has changed, and electrical wiring has been completed. Power comes from a generator located in a shed behind the roundhouse. That is a very substantial wood furnace in the right rear corner. The sealed window openings on the left are intended to eventually allow some light into the track stall area of the roundhouse.

We are proud to have this very useful project completed!
